What if I can't see what I type in the registration boxes?
- If you have the Google toolbar installed, you may experience trouble reading the text
in the fields on the registration page. Please try the following:
- Go into the settings tab for your google toolbar and click "options."
- Uncheck the auto fill box.
- Click "Apply," and then "Ok."
- Clear your cache and refresh your browser. This should help with the problem.
Where can I watch video tutorials?
How do I walk?
- Use your arrow keys to walk front/back/left/right.
- Hold down shift+left/right arrow key to strafe (shift left or right
without turning).
How do I fly?
- Hit the "Home" key on your keyboard to start or stop flying.
- Use the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys fly higher
or lower.
- Use the arrow keys to fly forwards, backwards and to turn side-to-side.
How do I change my view and control my camera
angle?
- Find the ALT key on your keyboard.
- Press and hold the ALT key. Keep holding it down!
- Use your mouse to click on an object nearby.
- Your camera will automatically focus on that object.
- To zoom in, move your mouse forward while holding down the ALT key
and your mouse button.
- You can also hold down ALT key + use your arrow keys to adjust your
view.
- Hit the ESC key a few times to return your view to normal.
How do I use my Toolbar?
- Your Toolbar is your virtual case file.
- To start playing a game, click on the Cases button.
- Click on the game you'd like to play, and then click on the "Go
to" button to teleport to the starting point.
- The Rank button keeps track of your progress. You start as a Rookie
Detective and move up each time you complete a Mystery Game!
- The News button keeps you up to date on all the new things that are
happening in Virtual CSI: NY.

How do I detach and reattach my Toolbar?
- To detach, simply attach a different HUD (heads up display).
- To reattach, open "My Stuff" and locate "CSI:NY Toolbar."
Right-click and select "Wear."
How do I play the games?
- There are four different kinds of games to play. Play the one that suits
your mood!
- Murder by Zuiker - Murder by Zuiker - Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of the CSI franchise, has crafted a virtual crime scene, complete with a vivid text description and a detailed 3-D scene. Your job is to examine the crime scene and determine what happened. Write your case report, and submit it. Entries will be judged each week, and the ten best will be posted in-world!
- Mystery Games - Every three
weeks, a new mystery game launches. The first one is "High Flying."
Go to the crime scene and collect all of the evidence. Then teleport to
the crime lab to get expert analysis. Interview the suspects, and decide
which one is guilty. Make your final choice at the Cisco TelePresence Center.
- Find Venus - On October 24th, Detective Mac Taylor chased a killer named Venus into Second Life. She's still on the loose and plotting her next
kill. Secure the first two pieces of evidence from the White Rabbit crime scene in orientation. Visit the Venus crime lab to process this evidence and get the latest report. Starting November 3rd, there will be a new photo sighting of her each week. Study the photo in the lab, and then go out into the field and try to find where the photo was taken. Venus has been known to leave behind her calling cards, so keep an eye out for them. If you find one, bring it back to the lab to be analyzed! If you can put all of the pieces together you might just find her hideout and stop her. Game play ends in February of 2008.
- Crime Scene Fun - For a
quick crime fix, visit the Crime Scene Fun plaza, just south of the fountain.
There are three different game kiosks to play.
- Killer Profiles: the Jigsaw Game - Rearrange
the tiles to complete the picture.
- Facial Reconstruction: the Slider Game - In
this classic sliding tiles game, one square is missing. Slide tiles into
that spot to unscramble the image.
- Memory- There are 15 pairs hiding
under the tiles. Click on any two to reveal the images. Match all 15 pairs
as quickly as you can.
How do I buy L$?
- Click the "Buy L$" button in the upper toolbar on your screen.
- Enter amount of L$ you would like to purchase and select "Purchase."
- You will be prompted to open a website where you can enter your credit
card information.
How do I change my clothes and customize
my appearance?
- In Virtual CSI: New York in Second Life, you have complete control over
how you look! You can buy new clothing, shoes, hair and more from the fashion
designers who set up shop in Second Life. You can also use Second Life's
built-in system to adjust your shape.
- Shopping
- Visit the Prop House for virtual CSI: NY t-shirts.
- Go to Fashion Avenue to walk through virtual shops with handpicked,
top-of-the-line fashions. Walk through the illustrated tutorials to become
an expert on virtual clothing. Click

- Browse shop.onrez.com for the widest selection of virtual goods.
- To buy something, just right-click it, and select "Buy" in the
pie menu.
- Wearing New Clothes
- Click the "My Stuff" button in the upper toolbar on your screen.
- Locate the clothing you want to wear. Double-click to look inside any
folder, such as the Clothing folder.
- Right-click the item you want to wear, and select "Wear."
- To take off an item: locate it in "My Stuff," right-click it,
and select either "Take Off" or "Detatch from Yourself"
- Changing Your Shape and Size
- Right click on your own avatar.
- Select "Appearance" from the pie menu.
- Use the sliders to adjust your look. You can be shorter, taller, bulkier,
slimmer… the possibilities are endless!
- You can also adjust your clothing using similar sliders. Please note that
not all clothes can be edited.
How do I set up voice chat?
- You will need a headset with a microphone that you can plug into your
computer.
- Click the Preferences button. It's the gear icon at the bottom of your
screen.
- Click the "Voice Chat" tab.
- Check "Enable voice chat".
- Select the "Voice Setup Wizard" to set your talk trigger and
to test your headset.
- When you're done, just click the "Talk" button at the bottom
of your screen, and chat away!
How do I use the map and teleport to new places?
- You can open the World Map two ways.
- Click the globe icon in the corner of the mini-map located in the upper
right-hand corner of your screen.
- Go to View menu and select World Map.
- Enter your location into the Search box, click Search, and then click
on the destination in the Search Results box.
- Click the "Teleport" button near the bottom to teleport.
- You can also double click on the map to teleport directly to that location.
- Use the navigation bars at the top of the page to teleport quickly,
and to find fun places to go.
- You can always click the Home icon at the top of your screen to return
to Virtual CSI: NY.
How do I get audio and video to play in my
CSI Toolbar?
- Open the preference window by clicking on the gear icon at the bottom
of your screen.
- Open the "Audio & Video" tab.
- Check the box next to "Play Streaming Video When Available."
- A control panel will now appear at the bottom of your screen when there
is audio or video available.
What do I do if someone is bothering
me?
- You can talk to a CSI: NY Greeter about the problem.
- You can also report the person directly.
- Go to the Help menu at the top of your screen. (You may need to move
your mouse over the area to see the menus. They are located above the Home
icon in your navigation bar.)
- Select "Report Abuse..." and fill in the information in the
window that opens.
